Respirando conscientemente, isto é, ganhando consciência da respiração à medida que ela vai fazendo fluir o ar para dentro e para fora dos nossos pulmões, começamos a reconhecer o próprio ritmo da vida: o ir e vir das marés, o crescer e o minguar da Lua… A nossa semelhança com as árvores (a que tantas vezes se chama “pulmões do planeta”) começa a ser para nós um facto evidente. Até a forma de uma árvore – com tantos ramos, grandes e pequenos – faz lembrar a estrutura geral dos nossos pulmões.&lt;br /&gt;A respiração é a única função do nosso corpo que pode ser submetida à nossa vontade – que pode ser voluntária ou involuntária – e, por isso, pode servir de ponte entre o consciente e o inconsciente. Por outras palavras: podemos modificar os nossos níveis de energia e a nossa disposição exercendo a nossa vontade no modo como respiramos.&lt;br /&gt;Muitas pessoas respiram apenas ao de leve: usam apenas a parte superior dos pulmões, e isso significa que os resíduos tóxicos não são completamente expelidos. Em consequência disso, o sangue fica privado de grande parte do oxigénio de que necessita para alimentar os tecidos do organismo e a pessoa acaba por sentir-se sem forças e sem nitidez de ideias.
